The "Holy S#!t!" Episode

First of all, this article will include spoilers for The Walking Dead, The Wire, The Shield, and most other series with the word "The" as the first word of their title. Last nights Walking Dead, titled Killer Within, finally gave the series the "Holy Shit" episode we've  been waiting for. What is the "Holy Shit" episode you ask? Read on below and I'll explain the difference from "holy shit" moments and the "Holy Shit" episode. Once again spoilers ahead if you haven't watched it yet read at your own risk.

You still reading? Ok, first lets celebrate; LORI IS DEAD AND GONE! She gone, to quote T-Bird from The Crow "There ain't no comin' back. This is the really real world, there ain't no comin' back. We killed you dead, there ain't no comin' back! There ain't no comin' back!" Maybe it's a post apocalyptic zombie infested world, but it's still real to me damn it.
Killer Within finally gave us what we've been waiting for from The Walking Dead. The episode where everything changes and it means something. They managed to kill off two main characters. One which was well liked, yet rarely used and another who was mostly hated. RIP T-Dog.

No one liked Lori. I mean, what a bitch. She fucked Shane, fucked Rick, told Rick she had been fucking Shane, turned Rick and Shane against each other, then got all pissy after Rick had to kill Shane. But last night we cared about her, and we really cared about her dying. After the episode was over twitter, Facebook, the internet, and the streets were full of people crying out "Why?".

She had to die and we wanted her to die, but we were all shocked at how we cared about her death. This happened in The Sopranos when Big Pussy got killed. We knew it was coming, yet getting filled full of holes on a boat still shocked the shit out of us. When Omar and Brother Mouzone fed Stringer Bell a lead lunch I couldn't believe it was happening. I thought there had to be a way to save the best character in the series, yet there he was dead and I was trying to think of one other person I knew who watched The Wire so I could call them and talk about it. That's a "Holy Shit" episode

Up until now The Walking Dead had been full of "holy shit moments", but had yet to break through to this level. Sons of Anarchy is on the "holy shit moment" level right now. They haven't had an episode which begs you to go talk about it. There is always something worth talking about, but no episode has elicited the emotional reaction of Community's "Modern Warfare" or the pilot of The Shield.

Last night the series seems to have finally broke through to the level shows like Twin Peaks reached during their heights and where a show like Louie has been (for the few of us who have watch it). The Walking Dead is now not only a must watch for a few great moments per episode, but for talking about and dissecting over the week prior to the next episode.

Also, god damn it Andrea. I've spent 2 seasons defending you for being one of the few people who kept things moving . Now you're doing this? If you have car sex with The Mayor I'm done with you. Last thing, big props to Carl for doing the dead. Putting a bullet in Lori is the redemption the little tyke needed.
