The Strange Saga of Sgt. Slaughter

PRO WRESTLING ALARM! PRO WRESTLING ALARM! THIS ARTICLE IS ABOUT PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING! AVERT YOUR EYES AND GO FUCK YOURSELF IF YOU'RE NOT INTERESTED!

Sgt. Slaughter was a big deal in the 1980's. The man shit Red, White, and Blue and fought every fat foreigner thrown at him in the AWA and WWF. The man was so entrenched in Patriotism and the military that he was given a role on the GI Joe cartoon show and even had many action figures made in his likeness. Sgt. Slaughter was 2nd only to Hulk Hogan in popularity but took some time off. Then Sgt. Slaughter debuted his new character. Let's take you back to 1991.

You remember 1991? Any major events happen that year? There was a war with Iraq. We really didn't like that Saddam Hussein guy. Vince McMahon was known for capitalizing on current events and trying to make money off of them. Uncle Vince needed an Iraqi guy to play against Hulk Hogan. But they didn't have one. Worry not, they remembered a certain soldier left AWOL in the desert.

Sgt. Slaughter was resurrected. And given an all-new wardrobe. He put on pointy boots. He made new friends. And they had military names too. The Sarge now took orders from General Adnan. And he teamed up with Colonel Mustafa as played by your favorite creepy Iranian uncle The Iron Sheik. The Sarge waved a new flag. It was black, red, and green and covered in stars. Sgt. Slaughter was now a former American soldier turned against his country and determined to destroy it.

Haha. I just realized that Homeland stole their idea from Professional Wrestling!!!!!! Proud American joins Middle Eastern group that hates America and wants to destroy it. The producers of Homeland should have thanked Vince McMahon for laying out the blueprint for an Emmy-winning Best Drama.

The Sarge no longer used the Cobra Clutch as his finisher. He alternated between the dreaded Camel Clutch and another move that looked like a noogie. Sarge rubbed his knuckles against the exposed skull of his opponent. Big brothers replicated this maneuver worldwide.

Sgt. Slaughter won the WWF World title from the Ultimate Warrior and was immediately fed to Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania VII. The Hulkster fought his way out of the Camel Clutch and finished Sarge with a legdrop. The last memorable thing he did as an Iraqi sympathizer was participate in a tag team match with Iron Sheik against Hulk and the Ultimate Warrior where the Warrior was fired immediately after the match.

Sgt. Slaughter went away shortly after. He still occasionally wrestles in WWE while waving the American flag again. If you want to make it as a babyface in WWE, you could do worse than being a proud American.
